Optioned as a short film in the UK, Langford borders between what I consider a modern essential short story and outright classic. I placed this story in the Grim Essentials series only because this author is relatively still young, though this story was published more than 20 years ago. It’s a lesser extreme tale than most of Kill’s but harnesses that sharp dark humor he is synonymous with.
